Location: Hybrid between home address and Manchester office

We’re looking for a driven and dependable experienced Data Engineer to join our Data and Analytics team and help deliver an ambitious roadmap of new data products and services. Through your work, you will help to empower people to take control of their own health, wellbeing, and fitness. Guided by and helping inform our data-driven insights in a virtuous circle, you will work with healthcare professionals to provide meaningful change in societal health.

You’ll join a team devoted to the development of a highly rated iOS & Android App and the cloud infrastructure to support it. Reporting to the Lead Data Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in helping us achieve our vision of becoming the most comprehensively data-driven health and wellbeing platform around by consolidating and blending data from disparate sources to create a composite, complete picture of each user’s individual health status so that we can personalise their health insights with unparalleled accuracy.

Your responsibilities

Here’s what you’ll get up to on a day-to-day basis:

  • Designing, developing, maintaining and simplifying reporting data sources, data warehouse, ETL applications and services
  • Develop technical aspects of the data strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals.
  • Provide authoritative Data Engineering advice and guidance when representing data in the planning and execution of development Sprints.
  • Undertake tasks with a positive attitude, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Ensure code builds, passes unit and integration tests and is deployable safely and securely.
  • Release services using a declarative approach that are compatible with deployment pipelines
  • Default to an asynchronous serverless event-based architecture, with observable rules-based services that scale horizontally on demand.
  • Produce data engineering & analytics designs and specifications.
  • Compliance with the agreed Software Development Lifecycle ensuring processes are followed for release management, development methodologies, testing and time recording. 


Your skills

The below skills are what you will make use of in your day-to-day work. Don’t worry too much if you don’t tick every box – we’re mainly interested in how you work, not just what you know.

Core proficiencies & ideal experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in software or data engineering.
  • Knowledge of Data Engineering patterns & practices both established and emerging.
  • Experienced in developing data ETL pipelines, ideally Apache Airflow, setting up data warehouses and data lakes using AWS services.
  • Python JSON, Parquet
  • Redshift, RDS, MySQL/Postgress
  • Proficient in several of the following technologies - AWS Lambda, ECS, Athena, S3, Kinesis, Glue, CloudWatch/Terraform/CDK, Tableau Online, MongoDB
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of data controller and data processor roles under GDPR
