Context & Purpose of Role
As Evergreen Life continues to strengthen its AI capability within our market-led divisional model, we are investing in integrating LLM-enabled tooling to enhance productivity, innovation, and delivery excellence inside and outside the company.
The AI & Automation Engineer will sit within the Engineering function and report to the Head of Engineering. This role has two streams:
- initially focusing on applying AI-assisted development techniques within a structured, high-performing engineering environment to support efficient, scalable, and high-quality software delivery
- helping to develop tooling to help colleagues around the company, everyday users of our app, and health care professionals using the same technologies
The successful candidate will leverage AI-enabled tools as part of a modern development workflow, accelerating prototyping, supporting feature development, and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering processes. All work will be delivered in alignment with established architecture principles, security standards, testing frameworks, and governance requirements.
This position will strengthen the team’s ability to iterate rapidly, experiment intelligently, and deliver robust solutions that meet the needs of our customers and the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Work with the engineering team to identify high value points in the software and product development life cycle amenable to AI improvements
- Develop and implement software features using AI-assisted coding tools under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Use AI tools to accelerate prototyping and experimentation while ensuring output meets engineering standards.
- Translate product requirements and user stories into structured technical solutions.
- Refine, test, and optimise AI-generated code to ensure security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Work within established version control, code review, and CI/CD processes.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to support roadmap delivery.
- Contribute to improving development workflows through effective use of automation and AI tooling.
- Educate and inspire others in the development and maintenance of AI tools – creating templates, standard procedures, and best practice guidelines to encourage self-service and wide adoption
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to ensure best practice adherence.
- Identify opportunities where AI-assisted development can increase efficiency without introducing risk.
- Ensure all solutions align with data security, governance, and regulatory requirements relevant to digital health environments.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to learn across functions, with potential opportunities over time to gain broader exposure across Product, Development and Engineering teams as part of the graduate development pathway.
Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Demonstrable ability to build functional software solutions (portfolio, GitHub, or practical examples required).
- Experience using AI coding tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) as part of development workflow.
- Strong logical reasoning and problem-solving ability.
- Understanding of at least one programming language used within the business (e.g. JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, etc.).
- Understanding of software development fundamentals (version control, APIs, testing principles).
- Ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated output rather than accept it blindly.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Desirable
- Experience contributing to live production systems.
- Understanding of secure coding practices.
- Exposure to cloud environments (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Awareness of system architecture principles.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
- Interest in automation, workflow optimisation, and developer productivity tooling.
